Where in California is there a pop punk or Alternative rock music scene ?

I am moving to California (and yes, i do have enough money to pay for rents) and i am really into music especially Pop Punk, Alternative Rock, and all that new thing. I just don't know which part. I am actually wanting to study music management, but also get into a band and whatnot. I was thinking of LA, but i noticed not a lot of bands NOW a days don't come out of there anymore, cause it's too hard, any other suggestions ?

southern california, orange county. Anaheim to be specific. My favorite places to see punk bands are at places called the Juke Joint, and Doll Hut. Myspace them!
